Flash MX. Part II. Making Nice Glowing Effect and learning basic Flash techniques and ActionScript.

19. Press and hold Shift and draw a circle . draw a circle
Select the internal part of the circle. Delete it. Select "View > Guides". Uncheck Snap to Guides and Show Guides.
Minimize Timeline and Properties windows. Zoom in your image.

20. Adjusting.


Using Arrow Tool:
1) Select whole stroke and move it using arrow keys.
2) Deselect stroke, place the pointer on the part you want to adjust.
When a curve appears next to the pointer, you can adjust the stroke.

 

Using Subselection Tool (press A): Select the stroke.
Select the anchor point. Move it using arrow keys anchor point
Place the pointer on a tangent handle. When the pointer changed drag the tangent handle. To drag tangent handles individually press and hold Alt.

Using Pen Tool (press P) add anchor points if necessary.
Tip: you could make several copies of the stroke, place them on separate layers and try to adjust each stroke. Then choose the best result and delete unnecessary strokes.
21. Select Paint Bucket Tool (press K) and fill circle. Delete the stroke. Lock Layer. fill circle and delete stroke
22. Unlock Layer 1, copy instance of "space" Movie clip, insert new Layer and paste in place the copy. Select Layer where the circle is placed, Right-click and choose Mask.
23. Unlock masked Layer and click on the first keyframe. Change Tween to Motion in the Properties window. masked layer
24. Select the instance of "space" Movie clip on the stage. In the Properties window change Color to Advanced, click on Settings.

In the Advanced Effect Dialog make changes you like. For additional information about advanced effect take a look at  Help > Using Flash > Index > Advanced effect, for symbol instances.

Lock masked Layer. The color of the planet is changed to advanced while rest of the image is not.

Insert about 90 frames for all 3 Layers. Insert keyframes (F6) for masked Layer at frames 4,7,10,13. Unlock masked Layer . Set the Color of the instance to None at keyframes 1,7,13. Test your Movie. You should see the effect.

Also you can try to apply Advanced Color Effect on the Layer 1.

25. It's time to add some glow to the planet.
Select Layer 1 and make it invisible, then insert new Layer. Change Background Color to black or dark blue in the Document Properties. Unlock Mask Layer and click on the first keyframe: circle is selected on the stage. Copy it, deselect and lock Mask Layer.
Select Layer we' ve just created, Paste in Place (Ctrl+Shift+V) the copy of the circle.

Open "Window > Transform" (or press Ctrl+T). Check Constrain and set 150%. The circle size is changed and we can see it. Make all the other Layers invisible. transform
26. Open Color Mixer(make sure the circle is selected). Set Fill Type to Radial. Set Color of both gradient pointers to white and Alpha to 0%. gradient pointers: color white, alpha 0
Add a pointer to the gradient (click on or below the gradient definition bar). Set a color for the new pointer to white, Alpha to 0%. add a pointer
